Brett Decker has passed away
Roy-Hart alumnus Brett Decker passed away this week from injuries sustained at a construction site. He was beloved in the community -- there have been many Facebook posts from Gasport and Middleport residents deeply heartbroken by his passing. There is a way that you can help his family as noted in the obituary below:
Brett Kenneth Decker, age 45 of Middleport, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2023. He was born to July 7, 1977 in Lockport to Nancy and Larry Decker.
Brett was so proud to say that he spent over 20 years loving and supporting his beautiful wife, Trudy, in any endeavor they faced. Brett enjoyed camping with his family, golfing with his son, Tagen and maintaining the family fleet of vehicles, especially their 1966 Mustang. Brett spent a lot of time taking care of his daughter, Arie, including her horses and attending her events as well. Brett shared a lot of love and life experiences with Malika who was his niece but more like a daughter to him. He taught his children so much and he learned so much from them. He had a great sense of humor and everyone loved him. Often times he would tease people and not know when to stop, but always in a fun loving way. Brett was a very loud supporter of his kids while they played on the RBM high school hockey team, and the Batavia Ramparts. He owned and operated Brett Excavating for over 20 years and met countless people during his career. Luca was found to be his partner in crime and always at his side. Brett will be remembered as a guy that was Mr. fix-it and as the saying goes, "A jack of all trades, master of none but often times better than a master of one". Family and friends were so important to Brett and the time he shared with them will always shine in their hearts.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his grandparents, several cousins, and close friend Jeff Strothmann.
Brett is survived by his wife of 20 years Trudy; children, Tagen (Patience Bacon) Decker, Arie Decker, Malika Lance; mother Nancy Decker; siblings Dan (Beth) Piekarsky, Lori (Stuart) Pollack, Amy Decker, Nicole Decker; lots of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Brett's family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, NY 14105 on Sunday, June 11th from 12:00-4:00pm. His funeral service will be held at the Middleport Fire Hall, 28 Main St. on Monday at 11:00. Interment Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Brett's name may be made to his family to help assist with his children's education. Please mail to Trudy Decker C/O Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, P.O Box 155, Middleport, NY 14105.
