Fundraiser for Cambria Opposition to Industrial Solar

Falls murder may have been done by former Gasport man

In 2015 there was a gruesome murder in Niagara Falls that has remained unsolved (if you want the horrible details you can read the article). WIVB is reporting that a man -- Yasin Abdus Sabur -- has been arrested in connection with murder.

Abdus Sabur will be brought from prison in South Carolina to Niagara County for arraignment on Tuesday.

He had previously lived in Niagara Falls....and Gasport.

While living in Gasport he had faced charges for menacing and criminal mischief for a May 2, 2018 incident at Horizon Health Services in Lockport. He was upset when he was denied medication and proceeded to damage the office.

If when he lived in Gasport you may have had a conversation or situation with Abdus Sabur in which he mentioned something at par with the evil that he was alleged to have done to Terri Lynn Bills please contact the Niagara County Sheriff to help solidify their case against him.

You can read the WIVB report...

Students get make-overs

Students from the Royalton-Hartland Learning Center spent some time with the Cosmetology students at the Orleans Career and Technical Education Center recently.

The classes of Mrs. Haigh, Mrs. Krayss, Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Howe were given a spa experience by the beauty experts in Mrs. Carnahan’s and Ms. Lindke’s classes. The students had haircuts, color, manicures and some just got a new hairstyle that they could show off to friends and family. The teachers say the students had a great time and a lot of fun getting mini makeovers.

WGRZ report on rural internet connections

It's been said here before about many Royalton and Hartland residents lacking reasonable internet service, let alone the high-speed connections the State claims we all have. It's frustrating...we're rural but hardly remote. Yesterday, WGRZ's Nate Benson did a great report on this very issue. A "must watch"...

Absolut to change hands

If you pay attention to the legal notices in the Lockport paper you would have seen 4 times already a legal notice listing the formation of RCA Healthcare at Gasport.

If you assumed by reading it that the Absolut of Gasport is changing hands, you were right.

Here's a Business First report on the transfer of ownership of 6 Absolut facilities in WNY. RCA Healthcare Management will begin a consulting agreement on March 1 with the ultimate plan of taking over operations later this year

STEAM class talks solar

Roy-Hart's Mr. Eschborn invited Kevin from EDF Renewables and Marion from Trieste Associates to his STEAM class to engage the students in an open discussion about the proposed solar project in Hartland and Newfane. The students really impressed Mr. Eschborn with their thoughtful questions about the project.

Spectrum outage puts local lack of access into perspective

That Spectrum outage that hit many Gasport households today?

That's how quite a few homes and farms in Royalton and Hartland live and operate every day.

A good number of locals don't have cable or fiber runs out their way and have to rely on spotty, inconsistent cellular technology for internet service. Mind you, there's little that's remote or wild about our community that would/should prevent decent access to high-speed internet (a growing necessity in the present and future).

That's just a little something to consider when you hear NYS officials say -- and local officials agree -- that the state is fully connected to high-speed internet.

Roy-Hart football changing

Roy-Hart is expected to combine with Barker and Lyndonville to make a football team -- the districts have shrunk so much and interest in football has waned to the point that they will play 8-man football.

Who has the best fish fry?

OK, here's how to start a fight on Facebook....

Ash Wednesday is at the end of this month, launching Fish Fry Season in WNY (although most places around here have brisk sales on these delicacies year 'round).

To get ready for 7 weeks of fish fries, and to help locals find one they'll like or multiple places to try in our community...

Who has the best fish fry in Royalton and Hartland -- and WHY? Tell us what makes their dinners so special.

It could be a diner, takeout place, bar...anyplace that serves fish fries in Gasport, Middleport, Johnson Creek and Wolcottsville. We're all about economic activity in our two towns so, please, no mentions of Lockport, Medina, etc.
