LIBRARY OFFERS TECHNOLOGY TRAINING

If you learn best by doing and you have questions about the latest phones, tablets, readers or computers, the May 30 Gadgets & Gear session at the Royalton Hartland Community Library is just for you. Attendees are invited to bring their own device or devices to this hands-on workshop that will be held at the library, 9 Vernon Street in Middleport.

Sara Taylor, an e-mobile trainer from the NIOGA Library System’s BTOP Express, will show residents how to use their electronic devices and answer questions about any device that is brought to the session.

Interested residents are invited to bring in their own eReaders (Kindle, Nook, etc.) iPads or other tablets, flash drives, laptop computers or Smart Phones (including charging cords) and ask questions about them.

Attendees will also be able to learn how to download items from Overdrive, Freegal or Zinio right at the session so they will know how to use these valuable services. These electronic services provided through the NIOGA library system, make it possible for patrons to download free music, books and a large number of free magazines either at the library or from the convenience of their own homes.

Due to the popularity of the Gadgets & Gear sessions, registration is requested. Please call the library at 735-3281 if you plan on attending.

The Royalton Hartland Community Library periodically offers sessions like Gadgets & Gear and residents are encouraged to check the library’s website at www.RoyHartCommunityLibrary.com for program information or you can call the library at 735-3281.

MEET & GREET WITH NEW DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY

The Board of Trustees of the Royalton Hartland Community Library is hosting an Open House to welcome Sonora Miller, the library’s new Director, on Saturday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the library at 9 Vernon Street in Middleport. Residents are invited to come and meet Ms. Miller, enjoy some light refreshments, and to learn more about her and what is planned for the library.

Sonora, who spent most of her childhood in Medina, earned her Master’s Degree in Library Information Science from Drexel University. She was the Director of Children’s and Young Adult Services at the Pennsauken, New Jersey Library before returning to Western New York to begin her position as Library Director the week of April 20.

After the first couple of weeks on the job, Sonora says she has been warmly welcomed by patrons, staff, Board members, Friends of the Library and even by other area libraries.  “I am thankful to be here, and I hope that my passion for libraries can continue the long tradition of service and excellence that has been set by previous directors,” says Miller.

“Starting this spring, there will be a slate of new programs for children and teens, and a genealogy workshop for adults.  Beyond that, I’m looking to expand our programs and services, connect with the local schools and local organizations and reach out to the whole community to find out what they’d like to see from their local library.

The library provides everyone, regardless of who you are or how much you make, with a safe space to get help, to learn, to relax and to connect with your community. I want to make sure that everyone in the towns of Royalton and Hartland knows that our library is here to support their needs,” she says.

Residents are encouraged to attend the Open House on Saturday, May 16 at the library to meet Sonora, to see their neighbors and have some refreshments. She also is interested in what patrons would like to say about their library. “The Open House will be a good time for people to let me know how the library can better fit into their busy lives.”

If you are unable to attend the Open House, residents can always visit the library and meet Sonora Miller at their convenience.  For more information about the Royalton Hartland Community Library and its programs, please visit the library’s website at www.RoyHartCommunityLibrary.com or you can call the library at 735-3281.
