Erie Canal update
I just received this message regarding the Erie Canal...
Notice to Mariners
2020 Navigation Season Update
April 23, 2020
Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the Canal Corporation has suspended all non-essential construction and maintenance activities, therefore the New York State Canal system will not open for through navigation of the locks on May 15th as previously announced. However, to support the Canal's continued use as a prime recreational waterway, the Canal Corporation is currently evaluating operational options to ensure New Yorkers will have access to the Canal system, if even potentially on a regional basis, this season. We recognize that this is an extraordinarily difficult time and are sensitive to potential hardships Canal stakeholders, as well as many other New Yorkers, may experience. The situation with COVID-19 is ever-evolving and we are trying to adapt our plans accordingly. Future updates will be posted through our Notice to Mariners program. We appreciate your patience.

Canal opening delayed
Despite the considerable social distancing (and sanity amidst crazy times) afforded by boating and the great outdoors, marinas and launches are closed across the State. And, the Canal shows no signs of opening -- or being filled -- anytime soon

Happy Easter
Gasport used to be abuzz with activity for Easter. But, it's a different kind of Easter this year.
Our churches are shuttered. The Lions Club egg hunt was cancelled. The local diners are eerily silent. Large gatherings -- like family dinners -- are frowned upon. Snowbirds and ex-pats didn't come back home for the holiday.
I wish you to have a happy Easter, despite the strange circumstances.
Enjoy whatever you do to make the holiday awesome today for you and your family, whether it's a family egg hunt in your backyard, an extended family get-together by Zoom, church by Facebook Live, or a smaller-than-normal dinner with your parents or in-laws.
I hope your day is as special as it can be.

Town of Hartland update
Town of Hartland Supervisors update:
April 11, 2020
Dear Hartland residents.
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Easter, although we are confined to our homes, we can still attend services by electronic means. In times of trouble we rely on faith to sustain us. As we take time to pray for our nation and those that are sick or in harm’s way let us also remember the true meaning of Easter, Jesus Christs sacrifice for us.
We want to remember and thank all those who are working to provide essential services. From the healthcare providers to store employees, delivery personnel law enforcement, fire and EMS providers. Our town, county, state and federal employees and volunteers are providing essential services.
In Hartland we will continue to have town hall employees work from home through the remainder of April to comply with the Governors work force reduction order. If you need assistance please call 735-7179 and use our menu to select a department, leave a message and someone will return your call.
Our highway and water departments are operating with a reduced staff and are providing basic and emergency services. The safety of our residents and our employees is a top priority. We need to continue the social distancing to limit exposure.
Dog licenses due are postponed until May 1,with no penalty, please make sure shots are up to date. Water bills will also be delayed in being sent out. A new board meeting date will be announced later on this the month. Please continue the social distancing and stay safe.

Erie Canal Derby cancelled
The Erie Canal Derby has been cancelled for 2020. I know it pains Lynn to have to do that but she made the right call for the reasons laid out in her Facebook post. Let's make sure that all of us who have been sponsors -- or could be sponsors -- help to make 2021's event super-special. The Derby -- and the Harringtons -- have done so much to create special memories for families across the region.
