On Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m. the history of
the Erie Canal will come to life! The Erie Canal Traveling Museum will
be at the Royalton Hartland Community Library with artifacts from the
mid-1800s through the turn of the century. These items are the very
things used on or around the Canal for domestic chores, farming and
husbandry, hunting and fishing, shipping and hauling, and daily living.
The
program presenter from Young Audiences WNY, a program designed to
engage students in creative learning through the Arts, will explain the
artifacts and encourage students to examine the items. Students can
learn about the history and use of the Erie Canal, and learn new
vocabulary. While presenting the canal-related artifacts, students can
use their critical thinking skills and imagination to understand the
importance and function of the various artifacts. Refreshments will be
served courtesy of the Friends of the Library
Students,
families and anyone interested are invited to attend this program that
will bring the historical importance of the Erie Canal to life in a fun
and family-friendly way.
The
Erie Canal Traveling Museum program is being presented by the local
affiliate of Young Audiences, the national network of artists
established in 1952 to inspire young people and expand learning through
the arts. Young Audiences serves over 5 million children and youth each
year in 7,000 schools and community centers across the country.
