Your children can really dig reading this summer,
thanks to the Summer Reading Program at the Royalton Hartland Community
Library. The six-week-long program offers children in two age categories
fun things to do and see this summer, but they will learn a lot too.
This
summer’s theme is “Dig Into Reading” and every Thursday will feature
activities for elementary aged children and story hours for the
preschoolers with reading selections that uncover the wonders of the
world around us. All programs take place at the library, 9 Vernon Street
 in Middleport.
Program Fun and Activities for Children Grades K-4
Kids
love dinosaurs and they will dig them even more after the first program
entitled Digging Dinos that takes place on July 11 at  2 p.m. Folks
from the Buffalo Museum of Science will be at the library to show off
some real finds from ages ago.
The
following Thursday, July 18, will have the kids rocking when Buffalo
and Brandy are at the library with a Dig Into Reading musical
performance. On July 25, the Buffalo Zoo will be Digging Animals when
they come to visit. August 1, Rick Merritt will be digging into the
tasty science of bubblegum and ice cream. The digging continues on
August 8 as Pete the Pirate talks about digging for treasure.
The
K-4 Summer Program ends August 15 when the Wondermakers, an interactive
story theater group from Buffalo, close with their rendition of “I Dig
Stories”.  All of the library’s K-4 programs are at 2 p.m. and are about
 an hour long
Story Hours For Ages 2 - 6
All
Summer Story Hours for children 2 - 6 years of age will be offered
weekly beginning on Thursday, July 11 through Thursday, August 15 at

first program is entitled Dinosaurs Dig.
Future
programs include Excavators Dig on July 18; Who’s Digging in My Yard on
July 25; Dig, Plant, Grow on August 1; Buried Treasure will be told
August 8; followed by Digging for Gold on August 15.
