Kudos to the volunteers who organized the Royalton Fourth of July and to all the folks who gave their time and money to make it a success. Another great job!
With a toddler in tow, I didn't get to see the fireworks up close and personal. But I could still watch them 3 miles away at my home. They were awesome...and, once again, they rivaled other local displays!!
Some families were mad over the late start to the parade and other events, but realize this was a great decision with great results. They did this because last year's event saw a lot of riff-raff from out of town visit...in 2012 there was one fight of dozens of people at the back of the park and, at the front of the park, a pregnant woman was punched.
This year's late start seemed to keep the bad seeds away. I heard but one fight call on the police scanner and that was roadside at Mountain Road, well away from the main event.
So, by starting later --- and managing parking as they did -- they were able to keep this a family friendly event and guarantee that it's an event that will grace our community for years to come, continuing to make great memories for young and old alike.
If you see Jeff Brown and his army of volunteers out and about, thank them for their awesomeness!!
