Back in 1978 when Herb Koenig became a Library Trustee, the Royalton Hartland Community Library was smaller, had fewer patrons, a different name and used paper library cards. On Monday, July 8, the current Board of Trustees presented Herb Koenig, Carolyn Wagner and Carolyn Hill plaques in honor of their dedicated service to the library through many years and many changes.
Dr.
Koenig, or Herb as so many people know him, has been a Trustee for 35
years. Over that time he has witnessed the library transform to its
present day level of services that include modern technology to
accommodate the changing needs of patrons. “Our library is a top-notch
media and literacy center for the whole Royalton Hartland community,”
says Koenig. “I am proud that it has grown and expanded, and my hope is
that even more people in our community will come to know the gem that we
have here.”
Known
locally for his many travels all over the world, Koenig says that the
library is “the one place that you can travel to any place you would
like to go. I also found it enjoyable and interesting to meet, work with
and get to know the different people in the community while I served on
the Board,” he adds.
Carolyn
Wagner joined the Board in 1985 and assumed the office of President
until July 2012. Wagner says her greatest accomplishment was the
successful library budget vote that provided a means for community-based
funding for the library, as well as the establishment of an Endowment
Fund, efforts to keep up with technology; community-based programming
(summer reading programs, plays, etc.) and having a great staff at the
library to make all feel welcome when visiting the library.
“What
I enjoyed most about the library is the services offered, the welcoming
nature of the staff, programs they offer to the community and most
importantly the great group of library staff and board members that I
had the pleasure of working with throughout the many years I was on the
board,” says Wagner who now sits in the audience at the meetings like a
proud mama watching how well the current Board members serve the
library.
Carolyn Hill
joined the Board in 1996, taking over as secretary at that time. “This
library is a jewel in our community with its many services and programs
for all ages. I have seen this organization grow and expand over the
years, and I am very proud of it,” she adds.
Like Carolyn Wagner, Hill says she now enjoys attending Board meetings as a member of the interested public.
Plaques
presented by the Library Board’s current President Ken Belfield to all
three former Board members after the Board’s July 8 meeting featured a
photo of the library encased in glass with a message expressing
appreciation for long and faithful service to the Royalton Hartland
Community Library.
