The members of the Royalton Hartland Library Book
Club will be discussing the deep connection between twin brothers born
into less than perfect circumstances in a compelling story set in
Ethiopia and the United States at their Monday, June 24 meeting at 7
p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at the library, 9 Vernon Street in
Middleport.
This
month’s book selection for discussion is “Cutting for Stone” a
bestseller by Abraham Verghese. This is an unforgettable story of love
and betrayal, medicine and two brothers whose fates are forever
intertwined.
Twin
brothers, Marion and Shiva Stone are born of a secret union between a
beautiful Indian nun and a British surgeon. The father disappears and
they then are orphaned when their mother dies. Bound together by their
familial connection and shared fascination with medicine, the twins come
of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution.
The
Royalton Hartland Book Club meets monthly to discuss selected literary
works, and they welcome other interested readers to join to share their
ideas and opinions. More information can be found online at www.royhartcommunitylibrary.com.
