SUNDAY'S BUFFALO NEWS LOOKED AT LIBRARY FIGHT

The Niagara section of Sunday's Buffalo News featured an expose on the library tax issue in the Roy-Hart school district....


Some residents who say that a new library tax was illegally imposed are attempting to gather signatures on a petition to force a new referendum on the issue this spring.

The tax was imposed last year in a special election authorized by the Royalton-Hartland Board of Education but held in the Middleport Free Library three weeks after the regular district budget vote.

School attorney Bernard B. Freedman of Buffalo, library attorney John Liebschutz of Rochester and the Syracuse firm of Ferrara, Fiorenza, Larrison, Barret & Reitz have ruled everything was legal.

However, questions linger in some quarters.
