While listening to the police scanner last night I heard the calls and search & rescue for a snowmobile accident in Gasport just north of Chestnut Ridge Road. A rider struck something (a tree? a ditch?) and flew into his handlebars at high speed, sustaining a painful chest injury. It took the police and fire a while to find him in the dark and they couldn't properly backboard him out of the site.
This sort of incident highlights the fact that snowmobiles, like all vehicles, must be treated with respect. Racing around at night in strange fields and forests is asking for injury if due diligence isn't taken. Be careful!
