CHINOOK HELICOPTER IN OUR SKIES

Gasport residents might have been excited (or scared) to see a Chinook helicopter in our skies Saturday. It was a Youngstown-based training exercise for the National Guard. I thought it was impressive -- the monstrous machine made the whole house shake when they flew overhead. Here are their pictures:

DENNY BROWN HAS PASSED AWAY

If you've lived in Gasport for any length of time you've no doubt been touched by the love of the Brown family. Regina Brown was a long-time teacher at Roy-Hart and her daughter Jennifer Perkins is following in her foot steps.

They've suffered a loss as Mr. Brown has passed away. He, like his wife and daughter, was a loving soul to area youth as a coach, mentor and church leader.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brown family -- they're good people.

Dennis Edward Brown, age 65, of Gasport, passed into the everlasting arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, February 1, 2016. He was born on July 15, 1950 in Buffalo. Denny is the son of Julia (Martelli) Brown and the late Robert E. Brown.

Denny was a graduate of Royalton Harland Central School and attained his Associates Degree from Niagara County Community College. He married Regina A. Scott on June 10, 1972 at Hartland Bible Church. He worked for Fisher Price Toys in Medina.

Denny enjoyed spending time with his loving family, his church family, and friends. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, football, and baseball. He especially loved coaching and umpiring girls' softball. Also, he enjoyed being a youth director of Christian Junior Astronauts with his wife for 43 years at Hartland Bible Church – where he was a Deacon and Elder for many years.

Denny is survived by his loving wife and soul mate: Regina (Scott) Brown, children: Jennifer (Gerry) Perkins and Ann (Jordan) Branch, grandchildren: Reanna Perkins and Jordana Branch, Mother: Julia (Martelli) Brown. Brother of Linda (Stephen) Walsh, Kathy Coughenour, the late Deborah (Debbie) Brown, the late David Brown, and the late Anne Brown. Sister-in-law, Nancy (Roy) Alvord. Uncle of Lisa (Amel) Jowdy, Tom (Stephanie) Alvord, Felicia Coughenour, Michele (James) Kennedy, Richie, David, and Michael Wisniewski. Great Uncle of Zachary, Nicholas, Madelyn, Sarah, Joshua, Amel, Madelynne, Evan, TJ, Noah, and Taylor. Also survived by Aunt Carmela Martelli of Tonawanda and several cousins.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial celebration of life on Friday, February 5 at 5:00 p. m. with Rev. Jonathan Goodwin officiating. A private burial will be arranged at the discretion of the family at a later date.

Memorials to the Hartland Bible Church would be appreciated by the Brown Family.

Arrangements by the Bates Wallace Heath Funeral Home, Middleport, NY.
