JIM BOYER BENEFIT: SEPTEMBER 18th

Jim Boyer, the proprietor of Boyer's Tavern on Ridge Road, was involved in a motorcycle-deer accident in late June. He nearly died and now has an inoperable brain injury and many, many months of therapy ahead. Because of that, he has accumulated tens of thousands of dollars in hospital bills.

His friends are looking to help Jim with his bills by hosting a benefit and bike run on September 18th at the Hartland Fire Hall. Registration for the run will take place at 10:00 AM and the party begins at 3:00 PM. Cost is $10/bike, $5 for rider for run & party, or $10 for non-bikers to party.

There will be music, food, beverages and a Chinese auction.

For more info, call 716.697.9032.

MODIFIED SPORTS REINSTATED

The Royalton Hartland Sports Booster Club pulled off another victory and raised the necessary funds to reinstate fall modified sports for 7th and 8th grade students. Booster president Rick DeWaters presented a check to Superintendent Kevin MacDonald on Tuesday and the board accepted the money last night at its meeting. Thanks to the efforts of the Boosters, the district's students have not lost the opportunity to participate in character building athletics.

Related to this, the school administration is putting in today's mail a letter detailing the reinstatement and what the youth and their parents need to do to participate.

You can see a copy of that letter in PDF format here:

Student athletes: Please make it a point to thank all of the Boosters for their hard work.

Parents: Always feel free to lend a hand with the Booster Club, it's the only way Roy-Hart athletics can be maintained.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETS SEPT. 2nd

The Royalton Historical Society will meet on Thursday, September 2nd at 7:30 PM at the town hall. The meeting will be a reorganizational one and the Society is looking for ideas -- and your help -- to keep the Society thriving.

Over the past year, some of the long-time members who had held positions of responsibility have taken ill or have become too old to participate as much as they'd like to. Town Councilwoman Jennifer Bieber thus assumed the duties of Society President, but right now she is without a secretary, treasurer, and editor. If you'd like to help her, call Jennifer at 735.7335.

BOOSTERS NEED YOUR HELP

The Roy-Hart Sports Boosters need your help!

With football getting its necessary funding through some really impressive fund raising efforts by the Boosters, many school district residents are under the wrong impression that the other sports that were on the chopping block -- modified sports -- have been saved as well.

That's not so!

Earlier this week the Boosters were $600 short of their goal for reinstatement. They need to be able to fill that gap and present the funds to the district ASAP, so that RH fall modified sports can be rescheduled with the league and section, coaches can be hired, and an announcement can be made, so that teams can begin practicing on September 1. Prospective participants will need to present appropriate physical exam and any additional health forms to their coaches and the school nurse, prior to practice. There's a lot that needs to be done in a short period of time!

I strongly suggest that all parents who have a kid who's interested in Roy-Hart athletics (or will be in the coming years) get actively involved with the Boosters. They need all the community support that they get to raise the necessary funds.

Realize that this means of sports funding will probably be the new norm. EVERY year the Boosters and parents will have to fund football, modified sports and maybe more. That means that the parents of the district have to take a very active role if they expect their boy or girl to play a sport. The Boosters Club is the best way to do this.

To volunteer your time...or to donate your money...contact Rick DeWaters who is the chairman of the Boosters. Rick's email is: bostonrick123@yahoo.com

You can also attend this month's Booster meeting to be held on Monday the 23rd at 7:00 in the High School media center.

NIEMAN BENEFIT TO BE HELD THIS COMING SUNDAY

A group of her friends will be holding a benefit for Donna Nieman on Sunday, August 22nd at the Gasport Fire Hall.

In June, 2009 Donna, age 52, was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. Since that time she has had several surgeries, procedures, and chemotherapy to treat the cancer. Despite all these interventions, there has been continued metastasis to her liver and lungs. Donna’s ongoing challenge to fight this relentless disease is compounded by extensive medical costs and co-pays.

Donna has been a nurse for 26 years and has worked at Mount St. Mary's Hospital since 2003. Her illness has recently forced her to go on disability.

Donna’s husband of 25 years, Terry Nieman, also serves the community in his capacity as Highway Superintendant of the Town of Royalton. Together they raised two children, Ann and Brian.

Donna's friends are asking for your support and/or donations of any kind. Money, basket raffle donations, door prizes...all will be greatly appreciated. Your help with their event will go along way in making her benefit successful.
