LARRY SHANLEY HAS PASSED AWAY


Many longtime Roy-Hart residents are familiar with Larry Shanley, who had been a well-liked superintendent of the Royalton-Hartland School District for quite some time in the 1990s.

Larry passed away on Saturday. Our thought and prayers are with his family.


His obituary...

Lawrence "Larry" Shanley, age 77, of Middleport, NY, entered into rest on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 14, 1939 in Medina, NY, Larry is the son of the late Charles and Lois (Pask) Shanley. Larry made the best decision of his life by marrying Sarah Brown on June 2, 1962 and enjoyed 54 years together.

A man of many talents, Larry worked in the field of education as a teacher and held various administrative positions, retiring as superintendent of schools in 1993. He was actively involved in his church, serving in many leadership positions. Larry enjoyed woodworking, traveling, photography, spending time with his family and "gallivanting" with his grandchildren.

Surviving Larry is his loving wife: Sarah Shanley, children: Kevin (Nikki) Shanley and Kelley (Sarah) Shanley. Grandfather of: Ryan (Marla), Kyle, Liam, Garrett, Fiona, Charlene and Jennifer. Brother of: Nora Jane Scofield (Clarke) and the late John and Ron. Also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Bates,Wallace & Heath Funeral Home 38 State Street, Middleport, NY on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday from Covenant United Church of Christ, 4449 Main Street, Gasport, NY. Interment will be in Hartland Central Cemetery, Gasport, NY.

MAIN STREET ACCIDENT

What happened on Main Street in Gasport yesterday? Well, some idiot fled the police and was travelling at 70 MPH on Main Street before striking a pole! Dangerous. We as a community are very lucky that no one other than that driver had been hurt.

DRUM OIL CELEBRATES 70 YEARS



This Wednesday, July 13th and Thursday, July 14th, Drum Oil will be hosting a special open house at 8776 Rochester Road to celebrate 70 years in business. From 9:00 till 3:30 each day they will  have free food on the grill, drinks, a coloring contest for the kids, and prizes. Come out and celebrate the anniversary of this cornerstone of the Royalton-Hartland community.

Yesterday it was reported here that 16 year-old Joseph Gillis of Gasport passed away this week in an ATV accident in Ohio.

His family has started a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of the young man's funeral...

GASPORT YOUTH DIES IN OHIO ATV ACCIDENT

Ohio media outlets are reporting that a 16-year-old boy from Gasport, Joseph Gillis, has been identified as the victim of a fatal ATV crash that occurred in Madison Township, Butler County on Wednesday.

Gillis was reported missing shortly before he was found dead by a family member around 6:30 p.m. at Stony Meadow Fishing Lake. Gillis and the ATV were found at the bottom of a 10-foot culvert. The accident happened on private property off West Alexandria Road in the town, and was being investigated by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.

Gasport now has a daycare service. On July 11th, Kristen Totah will be opening the NYS licensed Little Critters Childcare on East Ave in Gasport.
