BUFFALO NEWS STORY ABOUT LIBRARY VOTE

Earlier this week the Buffalo News ran a story about the library levy vote. As it notes....


...most district residents didn’t find out about the tax, which added about 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation to their property taxes, until they received their bills in September.

There was a public outcry, but by then the statutory 30-day deadline to bring a lawsuit against a school board action had long since passed.

Mary Cedeno, of Royalton, researched the district’s policies and found that any resident may circulate petitions to place a proposition on the ballot.

Almost 200 residents signed a petition for a repeal vote, well over the 33 needed.
