Return to school plan

From the Superintendent's Desk

March 25, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In an effort to meet the educational needs of our students, we will begin to implement changes in our learning plan beginning April 12, 2021. The following is a summary of our plan moving forward.

Grades Kindergarten through 6: Students will register for either a full-remote or in-person option that will take place Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The hybrid model will cease effective April 1 for grades Kindergarten through 6. In-person instruction will begin four days per week beginning April 12 in grades Kindergarten through 6.

Grades 7 and 8: We plan to return our seventh and eighth grade students as soon as practicable. The larger enrollment numbers at these grade levels require additional changes to be made. Students will remain in either the full-remote or hybrid model as is currently being offered. Synchronous and asynchronous learning will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for those students learning from home. Synchronous learning is when your child can log on for live instruction delivered by their classroom teachers, while asynchronous learning includes pre-recorded lessons, web links and other resources that students can access on their own schedule. Those students who may be in need of additional support are encouraged to contact the building principal. A registration form and update of our plan to return students grades seven and eight, will be shared as soon as possible.

Grades 9 through 12: Students will remain in either the full-remote or hybrid model as is currently being offered. Synchronous and asynchronous learning will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for those students learning from home. Students who may be in need of additional support are encouraged to contact the building principal.

What about Wednesday? Wednesday will remain an asynchronous learning day. Teachers will continue to maintain the services currently being provided. We will continue to evaluate whether we can increase instruction from four to five days per week and communicate with families as per any change.

Student Registration: Information provided by families is vital for the District to make important planning decisions for the return to in-person learning. For planning purposes we are asking families Kindergarten through Grade 6 to complete the registration by Monday, March 29 at 8am. This is the formal commitment process requiring input regarding the instructional model you will choose for your child(ren). If your child currently attends four days, we will still need this form completed.

Grades Kindergarten through 6 the registration link can be found on the District Website and is linked here. Please note we will be evaluating the success of these changes and make further adjustments as needed. Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this transition.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hank Stopinski

Superintendent of Schools
