Just a reminder, the annual spring burn ban runs from March 16 to May
14, which temporarily outlaws residential brush and yard debris burning
statewide.
Despite mud season and the belief by many that fires won't spread under such conditions, it's critical that the rules be followed.
One number I always use in these discussions: 58 times during 2015's spring prohibition period, volunteer firefighters in Niagara County responded to wildfires caused by people who ignored the law (including one fellow in Royalton who was visited 3 times).
That's unacceptable. Local volunteer fire companies are already spread thin with personnel -- don't make them respond to wildfires that are 100% preventable.
