Beef on Weck is a staple of WNY culture. It's unique to the region and something travelers like to sample just to say they did. Just like another regional oddity (chicken wings) arguments abound about who makes the best beef on weck in the area. Many people rave about the Canalside Inn's BOW, some people even travelling from Buffalo to eat there. I had never had it till last night (I've always eaten their fish when dining there) and must say that it IS the best BOW in Western New York. The meat was tender, thinly sliced, piled high and expertly-prepared. I work down the road from Swiston's (WNY's gold standard for BOW) and Canalside's sandwich rivals their's by far. It's no contest. I strongly suggest that local residents and visitors have a beef on weck at the Canalside Inn. You won't be disappointed.
