AFTERNOON FIRE LEAVES PEET STREET WOMAN HOMELESS

From the Buffalo News....

Fire destroyed a house on a country road about two miles outside the village of Middleport this afternoon, driving the lone occupant … described as an elderly woman … into the cold. Her name wasn't immediately released. A firefighter with the Middleport Volunteer Fire Company was taken to a nearby hospital after being overcome by the heat of the blaze, Fire Chief Steve Cooley said. Volunteer firefighters from Hartland, Gasport and Wolcottsville also battled the fire, which broke out at 12:26 p.m. at 4579 Peet St. Several other volunteer fire companies were on standby. Cooley, contacted at the scene, said the two-story house was a total loss.
