Read the paper's report here:

In an era where shared services in government are a MUST, this is an excellent decision by the school boards.

VENDOR DEMO DAY AT STANDISH JONES

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SPORTS BOOSTERS!

Below please find an urgent message from Rick DeWaters, head of the Roy-Hart Sports Boosters. It is important that the community help Rick and friends in making the annual dinner a success. As he mentions in his letter, proceeds help our district's kids get a chance to participate in athletics. It would be good to see the community support the Boosters with the same vigor they did when football and other sports were cut at Roy-Hart a few years ago.

Here's Rick's message.....

As you all know, the 4th Annual R-H Sports Boosters Club Dinner Auction will take place on Saturday evening, May 4, at the Middleport Fire Hall. Many, many folks are so graciously giving their time and energy to make this event both fun and profitable!

All proceeds will be donated to Roy-Hart Sports programs to help finance things that the district's budget will not cover. Know that all participation levels are included, from Elementary programs through High School.

We have only one week remaining to sell tickets and gather auction-able items, including baskets, gift certificates, and cash donations. We are asking for a donation of $25/admission ticket (food and beverages are included); and we are selling raffle tickets $5/each or $10/three (46 in HDTV). If you are planning to attend and can bring a little something for the dessert table, it will be very much appreciated!

FOLKS: We are coming up short! Ticket sales are way less than we anticipated and much fewer than previous years. This is and has been one of our most profitable and important fundraisers; and at this point, its success is in jeopardy.

PLEASE: We ask you to help support this important event for a very worthy cause. Email  bostonrick123@yahoo.com if you can purchase a ticket and support our efforts to help the kids of R-H. Tickets will be available at the door. Doors open at 6 PM.

Also, on Friday evening May 3 at about 6:30, we will be setting up at the fire hall. If you need tickets and/or have something to donate, please come on down!

If you have any questions or concerns about this event and I can assist you, please do not hesitate to respond to this email. Thanks so much.

SANDHILL CRANES IN GASPORT

Outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen: Keep your eyes in the sky and in fields around ponds, especially if you live in Hartland or the northern portions of Royalton. This evening I saw an extremely rare sight for Gasport --- 4 sandhill cranes flew over the farm!

These magnificent birds were on their migration to the Far North and, although a common bird elsewhere during migration, are rare visitors to the Empire State. Most all of their migration paths run through the center of the US and their annual flights north are one of the great natural scenes of the plains.

Learn about the birds here: http://birds.audubon.org/species/sancra

And, make sure you have your camera handy!

Afghanistan and a riveting true story about the real lives of women there will be the topic at the Monday, April 22 meeting of the Royalton Hartland Book Club.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at the library, 9 Vernon Street in Middleport.

This month’s reading selection is "The Dressmaker of Khair Khana," a book by ABC journalist Gayle Tzemach Lemmon, who tells the unforgettable true story of Kamila Sidiqi and other women of Afghanistan and how they lived during the Taliban’s rise to power. Lemmon’s book recounts the actions of a fearless young woman who became an entrepreneur to save her family and in the face of frightening opposition, brought hope to the lives of dozens of women in war-weary Kabul.

The members of the Royalton Hartland Book Club meet monthly to discuss a wide variety of literary selections and a variety of opinions and new members are always welcome.

Interested readers are invited to attend this month’s meeting, or any of the future meetings at the library, which are posted online at www.royhartcommunitylibrary.com.

FUNDRAISER FOR JEREMY BAKER

4-year-old Jeremy Baker of Gasport has Periventricular Leukomalacia (PVL) with Cerebral Palsy, which affects his motor skills. PVL is characterized by the death of the white matter of the brain due to softening of the brain tissue.

Premature babies are at the greatest risk of the disorder. Jeremy and his twin brother Evan were born prematurely at 26 weeks. Jeremy weighed 2 lbs 15 oz while Evan weighed 1 lb. 13 oz.

Jeremy cannot walk and has difficulties using his hands, but his mind works just fine. He has been undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Jeremy currently attends pre-K at Summit Educational Resources, where he is learning his ABCs and can count to 14. Next year, he'll join his siblings at Roy-Hart.

Jeremy needs a special motorized wheelchair, a wheelchair van and a lift to get upstairs to his bedroom. The cost is in excess of $30,000 and the insurance company only pays one half.

To help cover those costs, there will be a fundraiser for young Jeremy on April 27, 2013 from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Elks Lodge at 1805 Factory Outlet Boulevard in Niagara Falls.

Tickets are $10 in advance - $15 at the door. Buy a ticket and have a chance to win $100. You DO NOT need to attend the benefit to win.

ROYALTON'S MARCH MINUTES

The town of Royalton's minutes from its March board meeting are now available online here:

http://townofroyalton.org/content/MinuteCategories/View/9:field=minutes;/content/Minutes/View/229

Among the items of note...

They increased the cost of the Town of Royalton Recreation Program from $10.00 per child to $20.00 per child for the five (5) week program. The increase in fees is due to the unfunded mandates being placed upon the town by the New York State Department of Health.

They voted 3-1 to increase the employee-paid health care benefit premium from 10% to 20% of the policy cost paid by any employees who are hired in Full-Time Non-Union positions or as Elected Officials (currently the Highway Superintendent and Town Clerk). The health bank will also be eliminated for any newly hired Full-Time Non-Union employees or Elected Officials (currently the Highway Superintendent and Town Clerk).

WALKING/RUNNING CLUB

The folks at Body reEvolution on Main Street (http://www.bodyreevolution.net/), are wondering if their clients and the community at large are interested in a walking/running club that would utilize the Erie Canal towpath in Gasport.

They have an online poll going at: https://www.facebook.com/questions/10151344014767045/

You can also email your name and phone number to Dr. Aaron Pazik through the "contact us" page on their website.
